I have the good fortune of accompanying my son to on a collage tour in Chicago and we spent a day at the Institute of Art. I discovered this Van Gogh painting, The Drinkers. I wasn't aware of it before and I think it may be my new favorite! The swirls in the sky are delightful, and I love the personality of the old men, but the child drinking with them cracks me up.
There is a slight line of red paint around the child's hand and arm that may be hard to see here, but in person it really pops, and kept my focus returning to that part of the painting.
The Sky is painted with thick brush strokes, with plenty of movement. I imagine Van Gogh nearly dancing with intention as he painted.
Here I am with the painting very happy.
