Artist
I am passionate about creating lively paintings and love to explore color in each work. I enjoy playing with proportion and exaggerating what I find most interesting. I can get so obsessed with painting that I can paint from dawn to well after sunset without realizing the day has passed until I realize I can no longer see my work. My work expresses my sense of humor as well as my quirky, joyful outlook.
Career Highlight
I have thought of myself as an artist my entire life. My happiest memories from childhood were creating with my grandmother and painting at Don May Art camps during the summer.
I my first art shows were coffee houses in the 1990s. And I haven’t stopped creating and showing my art since. I regularly show my art in galleries throughout the US and internationally.
I teach workshops, camps and classes to adults in children both in person and online in all painting mediums. They say if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life. I certainly love what I do!
INSPIRATION
Like most artist I am inspired by nature, my experiences and other artist I admire. I can not look at a Poppy without feeling awe, so I paint a lot of Poppies. I can’t look at a person without finding beauty and realizing it’s the imperfections that make them interesting to me, so I exaggerate those unique features. I have traveled specifically to see artwork from Van Gogh and Soutine and visit the places where they paint. I also have found that I have a unique inspiration, my best paintings seem to be created while I have a migraine so I considered them a mixed blessing.
TEchniques
I love exploring new techniques and subject matter, so my art collection always has plenty of variety. My trademarks are my love of playing with color, line and proportions. I love to cover my canvases with brightly colors before I even start my painting, and will choose whatever base compliments my current mood I often paint in layers, sometimes using alcohol to texture them, occasionally creating up to a dozen layers before my painting is done.
